In addition to equity-only accounts, we can enable your account to purchase options on individual stocks (both put and call options). Option-enabled Accounts have the potential for dramatically increased returns, especially in times of market turmoil. Call options can amplify market gains, while put options can provide significant protection (and potential gains) when the overall market declines. We always hold both put and call options, and believe options can and should be a powerful tool for a wide range of clients. Options by themselves are risky and have extremely high monthly volatility, however, when added in small percentages to equity accounts, options can actually improve an account’s risk/reward profile. We recommend most investors start with 10% to 30% options (70% to 90% equities), and only consider increasing that target over time if comfortable with greater volatility. Option accounts do require significantly more management than equity accounts, and therefore require additional fees. Investors do not need to be Qualified investors to participate in Option Overlays, but must invest a minimum of $50k in option contracts.
